There has been a lot of media coverage lately, especially with ‘Celebrity Beekeepers’ who make the art of Beekeeping look…oh so easy!

And hence we urge you to please read our pamphlet  ‘So you are thinking of keeping bees?’

However, many people, once informed do take up beekeeping and we would encourage you to sign up to our Beginners’ Beekeeping Course which starts in the spring.

Our course for adults is a nine week course which covers both the theory and practical aspects of beekeeping. 

We will provide you with the following:
  • The loan of a bee suit
  • The BBKA approved book – ‘The BBKA Guide to Beekeeping’ by Ivor Davis and Roger Cullum-Kenyon. Published by Bloomsbury.
  • You will become either a full or partner member of the BBKA and Romford Division and will receive insurance, member benefits and the monthly newsletter from BBKA.
You will find out:
  • how to manage a colony to produce honey

  • effective swarm control & making increase

  • bee diseases recognition & management

  • how to assemble hive and frames

  • start-up, ways and costs

The course runs on Tuesday evenings in a mix of theory and practical sessions.
