About Us

The Romford Beekeepers originated as a division of the Essex Beekeepers' Association (EBKA)

In the early 20th century, the EBKA was formed with the goal of promoting bee culture. The division has grown to become one of the largest in the EBKA, serving the boroughs of Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, and Brentwood, and it continues to support hobbyist beekeepers today.

Learning about and caring for bees

We at Romford run ‘Taster Days’ during the summer, June/July (see this website for details) which are ideal for obtaining a basic understanding of bees and what is involved in beekeeping.

If this day has piqued your interest, then you will be invited to sign up for our Beginners’ Beekeeping Course which starts in the following April.

This course will provide you with the theory lessons required to be a good beekeeper and you will gain valuable practical experience before you make any investment in equipment and honey bees.

We may also be able to assign you a mentor who will be able to help as you start to keep bees for yourself. We also encourage our students to form ‘buddy pairs’ to enable you to gain valuable experience together.

If you are already a couple keen to pursue the Beekeeping craft then reduced rates are available at membership level, provided you are both at the same address.

Swarms

bees swarm 3

During the course of the year we receive a significant number of calls from the public regarding swarms of bees that they would like removed. Many of these calls however turn out not to be about swarms of Honeybees but relate to Solitary Bees, Bumblebees, Wasps or Hornets.
